It’s absolutely true that AI is reducing jobs, but not like you think. AI is not *doing* those jobs instead of people, AI speculation is redirecting *investment* away from job-creating businesses to capital-intensive businesses.

ULTIMATE audio compression codec vs chance to find something good to listen to.
WMA: Someone ripped a CD using WMP on Windows XP. Probably bootleg country music. Rubbish.
APE: A Russian ripped this in 2008 and uploaded it to a torrent site. Probably pop music from the 90's. Meh.
WavPack: A Russian ripped this in 2011. Probably pop music from the 2000's. Meh.
Vorbis: Probably ripped from a game or an internet radio. Probably because it sounds alright. Highest chance of finding something good yet.
WAV: Ripped from a game, or someone ripped using EAC but forgot to change options, so they just zipped it. Probably some artist you haven't heard of before. Could be alright.
AIF: Master tracks from some OSX editor. Probably bad garage music.
RealAudio Cook: Vintage porn. Slap bass. Could be good.
WMA Voice: Podcasts from the 90's. If it's about freemasonic Lizard Aliens living in the sewers ruling the world, score. But its likely just the news.
Siren/G.722.1: Music videos from 1997. Probably Song 2, even. Good chance it'll be good.
AC3: Surround sound from a DVD album. Probably pop. Could be good though, just uplug the center speaker to mute the terrible singer.
AAC: Some ancient iTunes rip. Probably Rebecca Black or Justin Bieber. Treat it like a hazard.
MP2: Broadcast rip. Probably Eurovision. Rubbish.
DTS: Higher quality surround sound rip from a DVD. Probably classic music. Could be good if its a cover of rock songs.
ALAC: iTunes rip, so likely 2010's pop. Cover your ears and get beneath the table.
ATRAC: Mini-disc bootleg music. Could be rare. Someone put some effort to make it. Good chance its decent.
ATRAC9: Video game music. Decent chance its good.
Speex: <This is an example of Speex.>
TrueHD: 96khz DVD-A rip. Those are hard to make. Could be good.
TAK: T stands for Touhou, so of course its guaranteed to be either tolerable or literally the best thing you've heard.
DSD: Pink Floyd. Yeah, but, you know, you could listen to it, or listen to something more modern that builds upon or breaks their sound.
Module (XM/Mod): Yes, it's good, open it up in Milkytracker and start jamming along with it.
MP3: Could you get more vanilla than this? In the grand scheme of things, probably meh.
Opus: Youtube rip. "Couldn't find a better version", so good chance its very good if someone ripped it.
FLAC: Someone ripped it, and someone downloaded it. Might be good, but in the grand scheme of things, probably meh.

Today's waste of time: SD cards. Some time ago I put a random 10€ one into my phone to sync my music library onto it. It worked fine until random songs crashed the player software and had audio distortion.

Finally took the card out and compared all hashes and hundreds of files had differing ones. But what is even more funny: for consecutive runs of a hashing utility more and more files were different. Sometimes the ones I literally just synced again.

There was only ever written to the card between the reruns, how is that even possible that the card returns random data and does not report an error to the hardware layer. "Yeah sure, I can't read this anymore, but maybe you'll like this data package as well? Please?"

Can't buy anything anymore these days I guess. Most 128 GB cards cost the same and I literally have no idea anymore which are electronics waste and which work. neofoxglare

I will try a "128GB Samsung PRO Endurance R100". Sounds important. It even got PRO in capital letters in the name! Probably means it's junk.

Ubuntu mod team takes anti-queer "Don't say gay" stance.
Show content

Please boost for awareness.

Recently one of my friends posted an introduction post to the official Ubuntu forums.

https://web.archive.org/web/20250905060630/https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/lukas-here-hello-to-all/66658
(original link: https://discourse.ubuntu.com/t/lukas-here-hello-to-all/66658 )

Seems fine except for maybe a bit of bad grammar around the "I am also a furry" part right? Well turns out behind the scenes the post was edited to not say "I am queer" before mentioning being a furry, and they got in a lotta trouble with the mods. This led to them no longer feeling welcome on the Ubuntu discourse forums.

The reason given was that the word Queer is a sexual word, which is just patently untrue. Saying you're queer gives less info into your sex life than mentioning your wife/husband, and if that was banned it'd be fucking stupid. Of course by the responses of the mods, it is made clear that that's not the real reason, and instead they're making the decision because of politics.

In the next few posts I'll talk about these extremely problematic moderator responses.

Also fixed the wayback link for the update. Damn I gotta get better at using that site lmao.

Edit 1: made it more clear why I see canonical as having taken a far right stance on the issue, on top of the obvious argument that the stance of their moderators represents the stance of the company/project.

Update 2: things get better, or do they?
